Directions & Parking for HERO Events

Anyone is welcome to attend our HERO events, you don't need to be a UCSD student. Following the directions to get to the UCSD campus are directions and parking instructions for the different venues where we hold HERO events. Check the event listing on our calendar to be sure you go to the correct location.

Parking at UCSD
Parking on Weekdays: Between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. you have 2 choices:
1. Purchase a Visitor permit:
  • You can buy "V" (Visitor) permits at pay stations (in some parking lots or at the visitor information kiosks at the Gilman Drive and North Point Drive entrances) or at the main parking office in the Gilman Parking Structure (map).
  • V permits cost $1 per hour, up to $7 for a full day.
  • You can park in any V, B or S spot for the amount of time you have purchased.
2. Purchase a One-Day permit:
  • These permits are available at the main parking office in the Gilman Parking Structure (map) and at pay stations in most parking lots.
  • One-Day permits cost $7.
  • You can park in any V, B or S spot all day, and in A or metered spots after 4:30 p.m. or before 7:45 a.m.

1103 Biology, Muir College and 3500 Pacific Hall

Driving Directions:

From San Diego International Airport
  1. Go east on North Harbor Drive.
  2. Turn left at West Laurel Street.
  3. Turn left at India Street.
  4. See "From the south" below.
From the south
  1. Take I-5 North
  2. Take the La Jolla Village Drive exit (28B).
  3. Continue on La Jolla Village Dr. as it bends north to Muir College Dr.
  4. Turn right on Muir College Dr. (a left would be Almahurst Row).
  5. See parking instructions below.
From the north
  1. Take I-5 south.
  2. Exit on Genesee Avenue west.
  3. Turn left onto North Torrey Pines Road.
  4. Turn left on Muir College Dr. (a right would be Almahurst Row).
  5. See parking instructions below.
From the east
  1. Take I-8 west.
  2. Merge onto I-5 north.
  3. Take the La Jolla Village Drive exit (28B).
  4. Continue on La Jolla Village Dr. as it bends north to Muir College Dr.
  5. Turn right on Muir College Dr. (a left would be Almahurst Row).

Parking for Biology Bldg & Pacific Hall
As soon as you turn onto Muir College Dr, Parking Lot P208 is on your right or if you arrive after 4:30 PM, go just slightly further up the road to P207 on your right.

Getting to Biology Bldg – Rm 1103, Muir College
From Lot P207 (432 spots – all A & B – you can buy a permit at the pay station only after 4:30 PM)
  • Recommendation is to park in P207 if it is after 4:30 PM.
  • After getting your permit at the kiosk ($1 p/hr – plan on 2 hours) and putting your permit on your dash, driver’s side, walk to the back of the lot (south – this would be the opposite end of where you entered the lot).
  • You will cross a narrow street (Muir Lane) and continue onto a wide walkway between the Applied Physics & Mathematics on your left and Mandler Hall on your right
  • Pass through a narrower walkway and turn left on a walk that passes through some square columns. The Biology building is now in front of you to the right. Go in the entrance that is under the overhang facing the back of the Applied Physics bldg.
  • Go through the glass doors inside, diagonal to your left. Room 1103 is on your right.
From Lot 208 (153 B spots & 356 S spots. – you can buy a permit at the pay station any time.)
  • Walk to the back of the lot (opposite the entrance) onto Muir Lane, turn left and then right onto the wide walkway between the Applied Physics & Mathematics on your left and Mandler Hall on your right.
  • Pass through a narrower walkway and turn left on a walk that passes through some square columns. The Biology building is now in front of you to the right. Go in the entrance that is under the overhang facing the back of the Applied Physics bldg.
  • Go through the glass doors inside, diagonal to your left. Room 1103 is on your right.

Getting to Pacific Hall – Rm 13500
From Lot P208 (153 B spots & 356 S spots. – you can buy a permit at the pay station any time.)
  • Walk to the southwest corner of the lot and onto Scholars Drive South.
  • Walk past Muir Field to Pacific Hall.

Parking for Student Services Center, Price Center & Center for Molecular Genetics
Gilman Parking Structure: Follow Gillman Dr. to the right - Turn left on Russell Ln. - Gilman Parking Structure is on your right.

Alternate Parking for Center of Molecular Genetics: Lot 604 (The Pit): Turn Right at the first intersection past the Visitor Information Center onto Osler Lane; turn Right at the stop sign and follow the driveway down into the parking lot. Walk back up the driveway and notice CMG to the North-West, located to the west of the newly remodeled Biomedical Library.

Getting to the Student Services Center Multipurpose Room
Student Services Center is located at the corner of Rupertus Way and Myers Drive, just south of the Price Center expansion, across from the Chancellor's Complex (map). From the Gilman Parking Structure, walk north on Russell Lane and left on Rupertus Lane. Walk through the plaza of the SSC to the Multi-purpose room in the back on the first floor.

Getting to the Price Center East - The Forum
Price Center East is located on Lyman Lane. From the Gilman Parking Structure, walk north on Russell Lane to Lyman Lane. Enter the Price Center food court from the southeast patio and take the elevator just around the corner from Burger King. Alternately, you can take the steps by the Triton statue and then follow the steps around to the 4th Floor.

Getting to the Center for Molecular Genetics - Large Conference Room
Center for Molecular Genetics (CMG) is located on the right (east) side of Gilman Drive just past the Osler Lane intersection. Building 805 on the map. From the Gilman parking garage, go back on Gilman Dr. toward the entrance, the CMG building
