About HERO - Human & Earth Rights Organization
Purpose: HERO is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to educating the public about social and environmental issues. HERO provides opportunities for student involvement in the community and supports human rights and environmental sustainability. HERO believes that only by addressing factors that affect the entire world, rather than considering issues that only pertain to a separate group or nation, can there be a social change drastic enough to end human suffering and stop the destruction of our planet. Requirements: All UCSD students are welcome to attend our meetings and be a member of HERO. There are no fees or restrictions. Meetings: HERO will have weekly meetings and seminars. Qualifications for holding office: The members of HERO will elect their President and Vice President by vote at the time of resignation of the current holder of office. The President and Vise President will select the Officers from those who are interested in assuming a more responsible role. One of the factors that will effect the selection process is the duration of the student’s involvement with the organization and their commitment. Officers will choose the duration of their stay in office. The office positions currently in effect are: Community Outreach Officer, Events Planning Officer, and Media Officer. Each officer is in charge of his/her committee. Officer positions may be added as need arises. Community advisor: Dr. Milton Saier is the permanent community advisor.
